Recently as I read Genesis concerning the account of Joseph I could not help but notice his character qualities. He possessed many, but a few that stood out to me was that he was faithful, he was a man of his word, he was forgiving, he upheld integrity, the spirit of God was displayed in his life, and he always gave God the credit when people tried to praise or elevate him. The fact of the matter is that anyone can be faithful in easy or comfortable situations. If you know the story then you know that he faced and faithfully endured unjust and challenging situations. The fact of the matter is that we are not always people of our word. He asked permission for a brief leave (to attend to his father’s affairs) and said he would (and did) return at a specified time. He literally fled Potiphar’s wife’s attraction and lure, refusing to go along with the program. Wow! Pharaoh praised him for his abilities to discern dreams while his very own brothers treated him as if he was a God. He communicated to Pharaoh “it is God who enables me to interpret dreams” and responded to his brothers, who offered to be his slaves, …”am I God?” What about you? Can you be found faithful in your call, your ministry, your job, your mission, or in your relationship with Christ? What about forgiving? Beloved, Joseph got a job promotion not because of his resume, education or speaking/preaching abilities but because the Spirit of God was evident in his life. Pharaoh held this testimony concerning Joseph, “a man in whom the Spirit of God is.” Is his power and witness being manifested in and through you? I often remark over the radio air-waves that, “the Old Testament has been preserved for us that we might take a peek-back and learn and grow thereby.” Beloved of God, Now Think on This.
